Hot Dog Tacos

Organic Hot Dogs

Now that Summer is officially here, BBQ's are becoming a frequent weekend activity, and you know what you undeniably need for a BBQ?

HOT DOGS.

Now comes the mission of finding some healthy(er) hot dog buns. Ive been in this situation all too many times, on the hunt for a somewhat healthy hot dog bun alternative, only to find theres absolutely nothing out there to cater to the health conscious hot dog lover.

Why are all hot dog buns full of wheat, corn syrup and preservatives? Is it so much to ask for a soft, natural, bready product to serve as a vessel for my hot dog and all my elaborate yet necessary toppings?

I think not.

With this bee in my bonnet, I took to my kitchen and thought to myself. 'How do I truly want to eat my True Story Foods Hot Dogs?' I COULD have done a classic hot dog bun, but i just couldn't get savoury pancakes off my mind. Given its Sunday and well, Pancakes are for Sundays (as are BBQs). I decided to create these soft, fluffy and so damn satisfying savoury pancakes, that serve as a somewhat of a taco for my Organic Chicken Hot Dog.

Reasons why I use True Story Foods brand for my hot dogs & sausages.

- Organic

- Non GMO

- Gluten Free

- No Soy or MSG

- Nitrate Free

- Beef hot dogs are grass fed

- Pasture raised

- Chicken hot dogs and sausages only contain white and dark meat (no beaks or feet)

- No preservatives

Grain Free Tacos

Makes 2:

  • 1/3 cup + 1 tbsp Cassava Flour

  • 1 tsp aluminium free baking powder

  • 1/4 c dairy free milk

  • 2 eggs

  • 2 True Story Foods Chicken Hot Dogs (available at Sprouts)

Toppings

  • Arugula

  • Pesto

  • Watermelon Radish

  • Sauerkraut

  • Almond Cream Cheese

  • Brown Mustard

What to do:

  • Place eggs, flour, baking powder & milk in a blender and blend until smooth and creamy

  • Heat and lightly grease a small cast iron skillet with avocado oil

  • Pour half the mixture slowly into your heated skillet, cook on each side for 3-4 minutes

  • Repeat for the second half of the mixture.

  • Meanwhile, in a separate frying pan (or BBQ) add in your true story foods chicken hot dogs and cook through (roughly 8 minutes)

  • Now time for the fun part - the toppings. The options are endless here, but I like to start with a layer of sauce/something creamy like a pesto. layer on some arugula, next goes the hot dog, and then the watermelon radish, sauerkraut, almond cream cheese crumbles and a generous amount of spicy brown mustard
