Matcha Mint Chip Ice Cream

Matcha Mint Chip Ice Cream

This matcha mint chip ice cream is about to be your go to summer treat, it's creamy, gluten free, completely plant based, and contains no nuts, dairy, gluten or soy. And that's not even the best bit. By adding 1 tsp Brandless Matcha powder you're upgrading this otherwise delicious healthy treat to superfood status. I used an organic matcha powder from Brandless.com new wellness line. Their Matcha is only $9 for a 100g bag which makes it a very affordable option for all.

Matcha (which is made from ground up whole green tea leaves) has sooo many health benefits, here are just a few:

ANTIOXIDANT RICH

The antioxidants in matcha are made up of 60% catechin polyphenols – the most potent antioxidant. Antioxidants help stabilize harmful free radicals, which are compounds that can damage cells and cause chronic disease.

PREVENTS AGING AND DISEASE

Matcha is high in a catechin called EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate). Catechins offer protection against many kinds of cancer, helping to prevent heart disease, reduce cholesterol, and slow the process of aging

PROMOTES HEALTHY BRAIN FUNCTION

Great alternative to coffee due to it’s L-Theanine content. L-Theanine is an amino acid which alters the effects of caffeine, promoting alertness and helping avoid the crash in energy levels that can follow caffeine consumption. L-Theanine has also been shown to increase alpha wave activity in the brain, which may help induce relaxation and decrease stress levels.

DETOXIFIES THE BODY

Matcha contains a high level of chlorophyll which is an excellent detoxifier and assists in cleansing the blood and aids in maintaining the alkalinity of blood and tissues. Chlorophyll also helps with the prevention of harmful toxins affecting the colon walls by flushing them out of the body.

BOOSTS METABOLISM

The Catechins present in matcha leads to a reduction in body fat. It also boosts metabolism which, in turn also lead to a decrease in body fat mass.

Total Time: 5 minutes

Makes: 1 bowl

What you'll need:

  • 3 bananas, frozen in small pieces

  • A few drops peppermint extract

  • 1 tsp Brandless Matcha powder

  • 1/2 cup unsweetened chocolate chips

What to do:

  • Place frozen bananas in a dry blender (preferably a Vitamix as you'll need to use a tamper)

  • Blend until bananas have broken into small pieces, scrape down the sides and blend further until just smooth. You don't want to over-blend the mixture otherwise it can become too runny.

  • Add matcha and peppermint drops. Blend until just combined

  • Finally add chocolate chips and blend until just combined. If you prefer full chocolate chips just fold them in, instead of blending.

  • Transfer to a dessert bowl and enjoy by the spoonful.
